I have mentioned on more than one occasion that Frey has been played out of position on the rare occasion he got minutes this season. He has many attributes , but being a ‘10’ isn’t one of them. Indeed Kone has also being played out of position this season. I know that was done to facilitate Burrell’s ability to run in behind, but I thought he looked much happier in the traditional CF role against Wrexham - especially first half. Hopefully he will get more games in this position, which I’m pretty sure is where he was signed for. Kone up top, with Chair behind him could be pretty potent.
Frey has been a great servant to us and played a significant role in keeping us up for the past two seasons - who can forget that goal and assist v Luton? Frankly I found many of the disparaging and personal insulting remarks made on here very distasteful and more fit for a Joey Barton type than an honest hard-working guy, who clearly did lots of work for the local community behind the scenes.
I am very sorry to see him leave and delighted he has joined a top-flight club. I wish him all the best for the remainder of his career. |  | | |

Spot on Myke. I think he’s been pretty much the model professional and the right sort whatever his limitations for the kind of football we want to play in the Championship. He trained on his own to get fit for pre-season, never caused trouble when he wasn’t picked and absolutely did his best on the pitch. Always noticed him celebrating our goals and wins even when on the bench and then he is happy to go when it suits the club and we even get a fee for him.
Similar to Lyndon Dykes who gets similar stick despite a similar profile of limited but whole hearted contributions to the club. Always have a soft spot for Lyndon too.
He also scored some vital goals for us last season despite being injured for quite a lot of it. [Post edited 27 Jan 6:14]

I'm not sure where you're getting those figures from. Frey played 2,559 minutes and got 10 goals. That's better than a goal every three games. Decent figures.

I liked his effort, but he had huge fitness issues and didn't score many goals. And he just wasn't a very good footballer.

Admittedly many before him never bothered, and MF certainly tried. However, that's the very minimum we should expect, but effort alone can't mask the fact that he wasn't much more than a trier, when fit. |  |

I never rated Michi Frey and really think we got away with one when relying on him to lead the line & keep us up, somehow we stayed up in the seasons of the Rotherham's & Barnsley's where we just had to be the 4th worse team,
For a guy who's not short, he just could'nt seem to jump & win headers with his back to goal, which is a must for a Championship level target man,
Ridiculously slow and just could'nt lead an effective press, did'nt rate his physicality either, always reminded me of a WWE Wrestler, all bulk and no real strength,
However...chipped in with a few key goals and did his best with his very limited skill-set, so wish him all the best,
