| The team that spent the most..... on 18:39 - Oct 17 with 2667 views | rbee | I am more of the mindset that we lost today rather than Birmingham won. Millers goals were two excellent strikes but he is on loan from Hull. I think you could argue that Birmingham's spending has given them a better squad depth than ours but even then if both squads remained injury free throughout the season, come May, I don't think there would be many points between the two teams. We have recruited well. | | | |

We have recruited a few players with injury records where as i would think Birmingham don't have to go down this cost saving path. So I think probably our squad is a bit lighter than the money bags Brum.

| The team that spent the most..... on 20:50 - Oct 17 with 2292 views | plasmahoop | There must be some decent strikers knocking about in non league..I know it's a massive step up but surely they would make the right runs. I watched a bit of Millwall v Lincoln on TV at lunchtime and Lyndon dykes was absolutely gash. But it wasn't missing chances, there were great balls into the box but he was stood on his heels not where he needed to be. Solanke is a bit like this for spurs and he's got England caps. Dykes keeps getting a job though. There seems to be a shortage of strikers, but surely thinking like one can either be coached or someone from a lower level would have the right instinct | | | |

I’m still not 100% want that is though…..certainly Charles, Edwards, Dunne, Kamara, Madsen, Burrell, Chair……and it should be Lamptey and Cirkin (but Kemper for me at present).

I disagree we will never be able to compete with the top sides because 1 their squads are better and 2 we never have a fit side .

Agree. It's just fanciful to think we can really keep up this good start to the season till May. Top ten is a good season... if we manage that. Football is so skewed by money. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
| The team that spent the most..... on 21:53 - Oct 17 with 2040 views | gazza1 | We lost today because the Manager made some serious errors with his team selection. We lost today because of extremely poor play from several players with regard to the goals, highlighted when we conceded the first goal from our corner!!! We lost today because the substitutions were very poor decisions. Whilst many of the players were pretty average today against a 'fair', nowhere near good, B'ham, the Manager needs to look at himself and his coaches with regard to their own decisions, it never helped the Team. FA to do with money. [Post edited 17 Oct 21:54]

But it can be done though.Luton had one of the smallest budgets in the league.Ipswich had momentum 3 years ago,but look what Hull did.Hardly big spenders.

Worrying thing is after only eleven games, Norwich aside, you could predict these as the teams who’d finish ahead of us. Stoke recruited well this time round. Need a top notch performance next Saturday.

I thought we needed 15 points from the first 8 games to show we'd be capable of top 8 and we fell short. Two points we've got from the four games against sides above. We desperately missed our better and more experienced players today and we'll have better games, but there's scant evidence this team is really capable of competing in the top third.

Birmingham did this before spent big failed to go up and eventually went down. Id say this is not being able to field the strongest possible team due to constant injuries though.

It's not the only reason, but a net spend of nearly £60m in 3 seasons on transfers, compared to our £10m, should give you a competitive advantage. We've taken a budget punt on players with poor injury records, and on players who aren't physically imposing.

| The team that spent the most..... on 08:02 - Oct 18 with 1172 views | dutch | This is the championship, any side can beat any side, and no side is going to win every game. We are top half of this division and if we can keep sufficient players fit we're in the extended play-off mix. It is really important that we do not over-react to losses and wins, but keep a steady ship. | | | |
| The team that spent the most..... on 09:46 - Oct 18 with 918 views | Dorse | I expected us to struggle away at Brum, based on the midweek performance against Derby. I know we won at a canter but you could see players literally running on fumes by the end. More to the point, they were the only fit players we had and we still ended up playing the last 20 mins with 10 men after losing Mbengue. Squad depth, availability rather than ability, is our major weakness this season. With a first choice, fully-fit starting XI, we are a match for more or less anyone. However, we're more likely to see Donald Trump touch his toes than witness this particular unicorn. None of this is news: we've made the same complaint for years. I think the reason it seems to stick in our collective craw is because, this season, we look like we might have a chance at real progress. And to see that chance negatively impacted by a previously identified weakness feels like negligence. Players will have good and bad games - that's a given - but overall their form tends to even out over the course of a season. Their fitness to do so, however, is somewhat questionable as things stand. Annoying that we lost but not exactly unpredicted. A week to recover and we go again. URs. | |

Playing Wednesday night and away on Saturday is also a big factor. We were missing Mbengue, Cirkin, Burrell, Chair, Dembele, Lamptey. Cirkin - suspended, and Burrell injured on international duty. Mbengue, freak injury, and Dembele ACL in a challenge. Not sure what the club is supposed to do about that. There is a huge drop off between Burrell and other strikers. And between Madsen and Kamara starting compared to when they’re not.

| The team that spent the most..... on 11:28 - Oct 18 with 636 views | NorthantsHoop | I was at the game, sorted of expected us not to be at it yesterday, doubts when Madsen not in the starting 11. That Liam Millar was always a thorn in our side remember him doing the same sort of stuff for Hull a couple of times against us. Remain positive pick ourselves up and start getting the home form going, getting Chair and Burrell back will be a big boost. To be sitting at 9th in the table take that all day at this point in the season, if we can avoid a run of losing streaks and hover within 3 or so points of the top 8 a lot to look forward to. | | | |

Steady on. We've lost twice all season. TWICE! We've played four of the top five. Three of those away from home. The only teams to beat us are in the top four. Yesterday Boro and Millwall failed to win at home to Cardiff and Lincoln. There are no easy games, as the old cliche goes. We've had one poor performance. And that was our old Nemesis, playing away in game three of a three game week while wracked with injuries. Yes it was disappointing yesterday, but Birmingham are a decent side and the scoreline flattered them. They deserved the win, but not by three goals. That's not to say everything is rosy in the garden. Injuries are killing us again. And our finishing at times this season has been woeful. If we can't get those problems sorted we might not make the top eight. But our overall standard of play has been the best it has been for several seasons. There's still plenty to be optimistic about.

I don't think he had many options. You could argue that Madsen being unused was odd. As was the omission of Lloyd. But who knows the thinking behind that. Defensively, the only serious option was Morrison. Up front, both Obikwu and Kone were on the bench. Are either fit enough to start? Highly doubtful.
