Thoroughly enjoyed the game and was delighted to stop the rot and bag a point before the International break. However that 13 point cushion we had a couple of weeks ago has now been halved and I am getting slightly anxious we could become this years Birmingham City. I guess that's what 50 plus years of supporting Rangers does to you.

Finding it really difficult to work out how near or how far away we are.
We compete pretty well with top ten clubs without ever beating them but, whilst these teams don’t look massively better than us, where they are good they are way better.
I don’t see any of our players as someone you can hang your hat on to win games. When your best attacking ploy is a Smyth ‘long’ throw, it’s not an identity that suggests top half football in the near future.
We’ve made progress defensively, although that’s been the same for a few years and been the reason we’ve stayed up. Centre midfield has improved, probably why we look to be in with a chance more games than in previous seasons, so there are positives.

Yeah the Struijk centre circle clothesline was far more violent conduct than the Saito one IMO. I found the officials fairly infuriating personally but ultimately the decision for the first goal was a tricky but correct one.
Cheers for the report Clive - end of the day it was a great Championship game of football, annoying as it was to cough up a two goal lead. My mood worsened when I saw the starting line up (too open, not enough piano pushers) but fair play to Andersen who acquitted himself well helped by Smyth's industry and Frey's violence (I mean I think he nearly assaulted the ref too!). Beautiful Saito goal, and then added disbelief when Smyth had time and space to actually deliver an accurate cross, I'm sure the Leeds players weren't expecting that either. Kudos to Edwards who filled in well at centre mid. Assuming/praying Morrison is fit to start at Stoke, then most likely he'll be in there for the rest of the season.
I had a minor mental breakdown when Madsen came on, but was relieved when Morrison did given we barely lose when he plays.
Two weeks to rest, recover, get some injured players back and I can only hope we don't return undercooked and off the pace as we tend to do after international breaks! |  |

Agree about their keeper, too. Saito's goal, while well-struck, was nowhere near the top corner and should have been saved. Thankfully, the keeper moved right just beforehand for no reason and took himself out of it.

Yeah, it’s like the advice to never argue with idiots - they will lower you to their standards and beat you with their expertise. Just walk away, Renee.
Teams below us make us play their system and it causes us issues, especially when more physical and direct. Sometimes feels like we didn’t bother preparing but often we start with the wrong system, selection and tactics until the subs come on, which sometimes feels 10mins too late.
When we play teams that are more open and expansive, we generally raise our performances.
And then there are just shocking days of shit - like Swansea. |  |

Brian, you are much more an expert on GK than I am, but I think with Saito (as with Chair's first against Derby) it was the quickness of the shot, rather than the accuracy of it that caught the respective keeper out. It was the same with Dykes v SU and Frey against Watford (I think), neither were brilliant strikes, but the fact that they took it on first time, surprised the respective keepers. Now I think of it, Coleback v Blackburn fits into that category too. I think that keepers expect players to take a touch (which they usually do) and this gives them a second to get set. If we conceded the two goals Leeds did, I'd be livid. The first resulting from Aaronson assisting a one-two with Koki, and Smyth given the freedom of the School End prior to his cross for our second.
Instead the Leeds goals resulted from two unlucky deflections off Morgan where a different roll of the ball may have resulted in better outcomes for us.
Hopefully some deflections will fall our way in the remaining games as these things are supposed to even out over the season. |  | | |

We have had this nasty habit of conceding goals either side of half time for some time so it effectively went from 2-0 to 2-2 in a 9 minutes spell. All the more frustrating when we have been two down in three recent matches and lost them all 2-1 and never really looked like getting level apart from Nardi's headed chance at Boro. The rare time on Saturday we have been two up this season and we get pegged back.
Still have to be grateful we didn't go on to lose but no doubt Stoke and Oxford will look at our 5 consecutive away defeats and injury problems to get at us so we had better be prepared and try and start as positively as we did to Leeds. |  | | |

Just surmising here, but maybe Nourry/Cifuentes tension partially the result of the youthful CEO loaning Yang in deal with promises to play him.
Also think we were better for Chair ruled out by injury. Meant we went back to basics and Clive Dunn 'they don't like it up 'em' attitude.
Last note: as Clive said, Farke told reporters after game he got his team selection wrong. If I understood him, the German thinks he should have been more solid and defensive in midfield but instead went for attacking approach to blow us away. And Leeds paid for that lack of respect. Idealism versus Pragmatism again, the Marti conundrum visited on the opposing team. | |

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with the long throw routine, in Jimmy Dunne we've probably got the best player in the air in the division, we've got Frey etc, so having the right players, it's a valid tactic. The throw in routine just allows us to move everything into position. Like Arsenal and their corners.

I also think we looked better without Chair. I love him to bits but he can also be a bit of a problem child fitting him into the team especially away from home.
It was the start of the Warburton decline who put him straight back into the team after AFCON away at Peterborough (along with Hendricks) we lost and then fell apart.
He seems to have one good game in eight (normally Friday nights on SKY) which is a worry. I guess that is why he is still here and we have received no substantial offers for him. | | | |
