Drury is an appalling commentator. He’s obviously trying not to shout out the name of the player taking a shot EVERY TIME but he’s struggling as that’s all he’s got. The current bunch are leagues behind Davies, Motson and Moore. In fact the best ones tend to do the minor Sky Plus matches.

I'm not sure of they're names but as I only watch Sky goals there's some commentating gonk who every week without fail say's the same tiresome drivel ''He should have done better there'' really? Watched the Championship goals last night and a lot of the highlights were without commentary (which was nice).
My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

Clive Tyldesley was a real pain in the harris ... I think he has retired now?
Yeah Tyldsley was unlistenable too. Thankfully retired. Disappointingly i saw an interview with him reflecting on his career and he came across as decent sort.
I remember back in the day - 70s and 80s commentators did just that. Commentate. They would let the pictures of the match do the talking, they never over egged the pudding. Modern commentators are already extrapolating the score after 20 minutes into what will happen over the course of the season. Even the sky commentator yesterday was speculating about Hull challenging for automatic promotion and QPR in the play offs. When, let's face it, both teams were dire for the majority of the match. Brian Moore was my favourite. An absolute genius for simply explaining what was in front of him in a generous and genuinely enthusiastic way.

He improved miles at the back end of his career and I actually quite enjoyed him with Ally McCoist doing ITV FA Cup games and World Cup last few years.
He was insufferable in his heyday on the Champions League though because he's a Man Utd fan and he constantly laboured under the misapprehension the whole country was desperate for them to win the thing. We used to have a sweepstake on how long it would take him to crowbar a mention of "United" into fcking Spurs v Tamworth.
Worst one now by far is Gary Weaver. Just constantly desperate to show you what a brilliant commentator he is. Constantly talking about castles and citadels and cities and towns and these people and this club. Somebody "plants their flag" about four times a game. People and teams are constantly "refusing to lie down" and "will not go away". He genuinely opened his Championship season last year by saying "this division changes lives". Just let the fcking moment breathe for goodness sake. He was vomiting all over the top of full time in the Sheffield game today, let the pictures do the talking.

Easy call for me - Vicki Sparks. Always sounds as though she's trying her best to do a (bad) impression of John Motson's mannerisms. Insufferable.
No axe to grind whatsoever with female commentators in general - Robyn Cowen is excellent. But Vicki, wind it in.
I'll get hit for this but women football commentators (not pundits) are too screechy. The women on TMS are excellent - plus i've got a bit crush on Isa Guha.

😂😂😂 “castles and citadels” love it. Yes, he is a f.ucking idiot. I’ve no idea why he gets a lot of big games. I thought he was pretty insulting revelling in Sheffield Wednesday’s relegation. I mean, they knew this was coming but relegation is still feels bloody awful as we know all too well.

Stunned to see no mention of Sam Matterface yet. He is an instant mute. Look at that Eze goal for England as an example. He is also desperate to try and crowbar in chelsea scum talk, no matter how strenuous the link.

This may not be true…..but when BBC radio started football broadcasts the commentator would say something like, “and Blenkinsop plays the ball into Preston's half, square 2” to give the listener an idea where the ball was. The origin of the phrase “back to square one”

Kerry Dixon - He 'works' alongside various main commentators - he adds nothing, absolutely nothing , ever. Complete moron. Says things like 'he wont be happy with that' or 'he knows what he's doing'.

Hugh johns was the best commentator ever . For those of us old enough to remember. John Murray on BBC 5 live is right up there. For us Irish on here . Jimmy McGee was a bit of of legend back in the day.,
