| Lincoln Reflection 17:54 - Nov 7 with 7255 views | bluenwhite10 | As Ian Holloway once said “She might not be the prettiest bird, but she went home in a Taxi with us” Not the best performance but 3 points is in the bag, Lincoln can feel hard done for the effort they put in today as they operate with a big budget but those players put the hard yards in and made it tricky for us to play around them. Very similar performance to Tuesday night. Smyth, Vale very poor today, Kempner quite and Poku came into more in the second half. I think the difference was we was able to bring on a bit quality in Chair and Cirkin. Obikwu if you have not got natural ability you need to make for it in effort so he needs to learn quickly on that front. MOM Ronnie is Ronnie and is a level above, but I thought Varane good was good but that balanced off with his bad is bad so today I will give it to Charles today who’s improvement in one of his weaker areas cross collection was noticeable as everything stuck to his gloves today and his distribution was impeccable. Off for the international break with 3 points in the bag after huffing and puffing. Come on you R’s | | | | |

| Lincoln Reflection on 22:21 - Nov 7 by A40Bosh | Looking at the table on 3 clubs have conceded less than our 18 goals and I think that is testament to our defensive quality in most games this season. Yes we have had 3 bad defeats (20% of the 15 games) but with the summer recruitment seem to have been able to get through the first third of the season without have a suspect line up across the back 4. Amadou being injured is the only constant concern but I have to say Adamson continues to impress and made that important block today. Jimmy had it tough today against a big opponent but worked hard and went in strong on every aerial battle. Ronnie seemed to also be able to put himself about today. I think we have struck gold with both Kemper and Cirkin coming in and there was no obvious drop off when Kemper went off, far from it. I think the early booking for Smythie did for him today and at one point I thought he was going to be sent off after an obvious full back late on. I hope over the coming weeks with the return of other missing midfielders and attackers we can be waxing lyrical about the other end of the pitch for the 2nd and 3rd parts of the season. Good result, top 8, in a good position if we can get the others firing. |
I really enjoyed that. Had a bit of everything. I love this team and manager. Like some have said, even surpasses the Warbs years. So many injuries, yet so much heart and no little guile. Wise manager. Love Kamara and Poku, where did we find these two? Players we would have given our right arms for at many times in the past 30 years. Never stopped showing for the ball or running their arses off for the cause. Cirkin too. Hard, nasty, smart. You'd want to be in the trenches with these lads. You might live to see tomorrow. There's real soul in this side. I don't really care if we make the play offs or not, keep playing like this and we'll keep coming back. There's something brewing for sure.

| Lincoln Reflection on 20:49 - Nov 7 by terryb | We needed to win & we deserved to win, but I don't think that we played particularly well today. It would have been very difficult to do so when Poku & Vale were so poor. Paul Smyth also didn't have one of his better games, but was nowhere near the level of the other two! Thankfully, Kone took up some very good positions & his control was back to what I expect from him. Hopefully Kamara won't have to play all the minutes for Finland in the international break. We will need him available & ready for the trip to Millwall. And the visit to see Sam Field captaining a team against us. Maintain our current points per game & we are on course for over 70 points this season. That would be rather nice! |
I read somewhere Kamara was not included in Finland's squad this time because the Manager wants players who wanted to play for their Country, or words something like that. Then the story about him returning early from the last International break was repeated. Good news for us, perhaps not for Glenn Kamara.

| Lincoln Reflection on 19:00 - Nov 7 by Geoff78 | Rs made very hard work of a game they always should have one but arguably conceded the best chances to Lincoln. Too often in recent games our defence has looked vulnerable especially to the quick break. The Imps goal came from giving away a sloppy pass in midfield after which Varane couldn't get a challenge in, Jimmy was outmanoeuvred, Adamson gave the attacker half a yard and never got it back and Charlles probably went down too soon. A disastrous spell followed where Lincoln were all over us but somehow we kept them out. I know there are lots of reasons to be positive but I thought we were pretty average today. There were too many passages of poor play where we gave the ball away in promising positions, were just too slow or our forwards couldn't sort their feet out to get a shot away. Playing the ball around at the back works better with Charles but still loses momentum. Smyth made at least 3 runs for the early ball over the top, but it never came. Am I the only one who thinks Jimmy isn't at the top of his game at the moment? Vale disappointed again. Stephan clearly has a lot of faith in him. Chair coming on raised the level and his short pass led to the goal. Kamara only needed one touch to bury the shot. Obikwu coming on was a surprise and he didn't do much to impress, but maybe Stephan felt we needed his height. Kolli would have been my choice of sub earlier than that. In the end well done to the team who battled hard against a well drilled defence. But we need better control in midfield and a cutting edge up front if we're going to finish in the top eight. Madsen and Burrel can't come back soon enough. Hard to pick a MotM - possibly Edwards yet again, but let's give it to Kamara. |
The thing about sorting their feet out to get a shot away has been really noticeable in these kinds of games where have the possession and the opposition are sitting deep. Maybe - in the absence of Burrell - our available strikers just lack this instinctive skill, and are better suited to attacking moves running on to the ball.

| Lincoln Reflection on 21:42 - Nov 7 by Lblock | I know this sounds contrary and even plain wrong based on current league position, but, this squad and Manager look some way away from being play off contenders to me. Fantastic we are above West Ham after a third of the season. Brilliant were top half Amazing we are 8th Thought Kone looked good in his outing today (and I’m a harsh critic of his) but after he went off it showed what limited options we have in attack without him. Obikwho? looked like a competition winner, somewhat Steve Slade in style Can you really see him or Kolli being the answer against some of the much better defences we’ll be up against back nine of the season? I remain concerned that Burrell will feature much or be the player he was last season in the short to medium term. Midfield is just as concerning to me. That line up gets eaten alive in the Docklands in a few weeks. Vale - my days, the Jimmy Smith vibes with this geezer are real. Simply doesn’t want to give it the effort and endeavour needed, always just jogging, always just on the edge of the game, always doing my nut in. Varanne - I was a big fan and a defender of his, this season he’s just not at the races. For a lad of his size he’s pretty weak, doesn’t read the game and I can’t see what his role is as doesn’t tackle and rarely picks a pass going forward Poku - last couple of games he looks like he couldn’t beat an egg and looks to be regressing into his self. Total credit to him for actually being available though. Dembele - doing what he can but he’s too easy to eat up and bully him off the ball. As above credit to him for being available. I see people lauding JS for the substitutions but I felt left it too long again to switch it up. We can make changes outside of the 55 to 65 minute window. Got a result so fair play |
Crikey thats amazingly harsh ! How long have you been a fan of the hoops? Only asking because have you seen us over the last few decades. So far this season, things have been much better than most seasons and we have been missing key players also. Anyhow, onwards and upwards, We doing just fine for me !

| Lincoln Reflection on 08:45 - Nov 8 with 0 views | dmm | We're now slightly ahead of a 1.5 points per game, 69 points final tally, which is an average total needed for an end of season 8th league place. So, for me, we're on course. | | | |
| Lincoln Reflection on 11:36 - Nov 8 with 0 views | loneranger1 | Agree with most of the comments above about who played particularly well (Edwards and Kamara especially), but surprised more people aren't mentioning Dunne. I thought especially in the first half, he seemed to win every header, and made no-nonsense clearances when needed... I know Edwards is the rolls royce, but thought it was a good captain's performance again and Dunne was solid. People say he was caught for their goal but in my mind that was all down to Varane (losing it and then you'd expect him to foul the guy way before he got the pass away to the runner). Anyway, noticed that JS made a beeline for him at the end of the match to give him credit, and I thought he had a very good game. | | | |

| Lincoln Reflection on 21:54 - Nov 7 by Paddyhoops | Obiwoku is giving off Devon White vibes. He hasn’t played much so he deserves a pass. |
Devon White lacked a lot of football skills, but he could score a few goals too. Obikwu looked like a non league player in his 20 minutes yesterday . When he had the ball on the left touchline in added time he stood there looking lost and was quickly dispossessed by the Lincoln player. Any other player would have run the ball down to the corner flag. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
| Lincoln Reflection on 11:48 - Nov 8 with 0 views | Northernr | We needed four points from the week and we got them. Haven't played well at all, team is dysfunctional with that midfield line up, but we got the results we need while missing Madsen and JCS who I think are pretty key to us this season so that's a good week. Several other teams triped up yesterday in this final game of the week and final game of this blast of seven - Southampton at Preston, West Ham at Blackburn, Sheff Utd at Charlton - and that could easily have been us so fair play for grinding that result out. I did think yesterday he could have solved this by giving Morrison a run. It's Lincoln, all you have to do is stand there and head it, Morrison can do that whatever you think of him. That could have moved Edwards into midfield and taken Varane out who was, once again, all over the bloody shop. | | | |

Dunne is generally so good his rare bad games are noticeable. But yes he was important both defensively and with the ball. Single-handedly makes up for having such a diddy team and considering their XI we dealt with set pieces quite well. Helped by a goalkeeper you trust to both not be glued to the line and win the ball.
| Lincoln Reflection on 11:56 - Nov 8 with 0 views | daveB | I thought we did well, was a tough game but they stuck at it and got the win in the end. Lots of things to pick holes in and nowhere near our best but that game had QPR defeat written all over it yesterday and we've won it leaving us in a good place before the relentless run starts in 2 weeks. Varane had an odd game, was at times very good on the ball but then would fall apart for a few minutes including for their goal. I thought Poku had a decent game but at times makes it a bit too obvious what he plans to do, needs to mix it up a bit more. Chair made the difference when he came on, looked really good again Justin Fletcher would have been better up front than Obikwu | | | |

Agree on Chair, turned the game back our way just as it was threatening to slide away. Obikwu was utterly bizarre. Very difficult to justify him coming on ahead of Kolli on the evidence of this week, other than just to deliberately pis Kolli off.

Definitely a red for me. I wonder what Cirkin thought when he saw that challenge?? Was disappointed in the ref, got that big decision wrong (this foul) and also seemed to give Lincoln free kicks for minimal contact but waved us away when we were fouled. Also strange yellow card for Smyth as I thought he was initially fouled by the Lincoln player who then threw himself to the ground. Sort of decisions you expect maybe from an inexperienced ref but not someone like this one. (Unless the ref is Gavin Ward or Keith Stroud).

Obikwu was a bit bizarre yesterday though not so much against Burnley. But I can completely understand why he’s hesitant to play Kolli. He’s got only 66% pass completion this season, the worst in the squad. He’s also given the ball away that’s led to a goal. He’s scored no goals or assists and missed a big chance. I know stats aren’t everything but just from my own eyes I don’t think he’s been playing that well, although to be fair Chair should have scored from the cutback he made against Burnley. Of course he’s young and learning and hasn’t played many minutes, but Obikwo is also young and learning and hasn’t played many minutes. I can understand with his height and his greater physicality he’d be given at least a chance especially once Kone had come off.

Yeah, I don't know what to make of the Devon White comparison - God knows Big Dev was a limited player but he became a cult hero because he weighed in with a decent goals-per-appearance ratio (in the top flight as well, remember) and was always an awkward bugger for opponents to play against. Given we bought him for a couple of fivers and a packet of hobnobs he was a decent signing. Obikwu is going to have to do a lot better to match that.
| Lincoln Reflection on 12:53 - Nov 8 with 0 views | Watford_Ranger | While his performance midweek will be remembered for the miss, I thought Obikwu made a bit of a difference and can understand the logic yesterday that he’d stretch them more than Kolli would. But it was like he was pissed. One to remember and laugh about when we see him on the scoresheet for Hemel Hempstead in a year or two. | | | |
