Points, required for safety 12:47 - Mar 25 with 4381 views | numptydumpty | Five for me gets us to 50 points A draw away at Stoke and home win against Cardiff in next two fixtures, could well be enough, given they are matches against clubs in greater danger than ourselves. Eight games left... What do others feel is required?? [Post edited 25 Mar 12:48]

Points, required for safety on 12:53 - Mar 25 with 2871 views | KensalT | 50 points should be enough. Still nine teams beneath us and they'll be taking points off each other somewhere along the way. Luton and Derby finding some form has certainly put the cat amongst the pigeons.
Points, required for safety on 12:56 - Mar 25 with 2848 views | LazyFan | Sjoke is a 6 pointer for both teams. Win that, and we should be good as we only need 2 draws then. Marti will have drilled that into them; the heat will be on the players. Expect instant aggression from kick off.

Points, required for safety on 13:02 - Mar 25 with 2824 views | Ned_Kennedys | We are pretty much safe already: would need a disastrous end to the season with no more wins to get dragged into it. If that happens we’d deserve everything we get.

Obviously, it's been far too much to ask of Marti and the players to perform with intensity and commitment for the whole season, or anything close to it. We've had creditable efforts and performances for what - a third of the games? (I know - injuries, money, blah de blah, and this is a very spirited group, apparently.) Must be nice to have a job when you can phone it in as and when needed. A little bird tells me that doesn't mean refunds will be doled out for two thirds of the price of season tickets/travel costs, either way. [Post edited 25 Mar 13:03]

Points, required for safety on 13:03 - Mar 25 with 2805 views | Rsole | Just make sure we don’t lose to the teams below us and that would probably do the job. No doubt we’ll make it much harder than that but keeping the distance from those teams and the points attrition from elsewhere would be enough. Probably end up losing to 2 or 3 of them but beating someone above us - just because that would be a QPR style approach to what should be a simple challenge. Hoping we have some recovered players to help us over the line, even if it’s via a cameo off the bench. Then onto the summer of the long knives….

Points, required for safety on 06:45 - Mar 26 with 2435 views | QPROslo | I think we need 2 or 3 wins soonest to ensure safety. With all our injuries to key players and I guess Saito suspended for the next 3 games, plus weak back-up, I don't feel that confident about staying in the Championship another season.

That would be rare for us….. oh, hang on It’s absolutely maddening that we’re having this discussion The phoned in garbage at Fratton Park, the last seconds of Cov away and that total bucket of shite at Middlesbrough were the killers. Even three drab draws there and I’d say we’d be espidrals and factor 30 time. Need two wins Ideally starting with Sjoke Teams below us will be scrapping for their lives and we need to give it the gum to avoid slipping into a battle we are not prepared for. The Leeds performance gives you hope but losing Saito and Cook is an issue. I’d rather be sucked off than sucked in any day

Points, required for safety on 07:03 - Mar 26 with 2394 views | WestonsuperR | The problem is Derby and Luton finding form from nowhere. Could easily see a scenario where we are 3-4 pts clear with a couple of matches to go, wouldn’t really fancy that with Burnley and Sunderland the final 2 games.
Points, required for safety on 07:20 - Mar 26 with 2370 views | dmm | Over the last 14 seasons, the most points needed for survival was 55 (2012/13) and the least needed was 41 (2021/22). The average is 47 points. A couple of wins from the next 6 games would see us safe.

I'm with you. This season doesn't feel like 55+ for safety kind of a season. With 24 points left to play for, and our season average so far of 1.2 points per game, reaching 56/57 points by the close of play feels like par but I would hope we could do better than that.

It's the first game after an international break, so sadly I'm expecting instant mogadon...

Points, required for safety on 10:32 - Mar 26 with 1888 views | Loyalitat | Another five points will be required for safety. We'll manage that, but I don't see us equalling or exceeding the 56 points' total of last season.
Points, required for safety on 10:48 - Mar 26 with 1836 views | derbyhoop | Plymouth won't get 45 points. Beat EITHER Stoke OR Cardiff OR Oxford and they'll finish below us. 1 more win may do, but that's a long way from Marti's 56 point, realistic(?), target. 8 games left. That is 24 points and would.leave us just short of the playoffs. That's an alternative take cf the original thread title. [Post edited 26 Mar 14:04]

Points, required for safety on 10:49 - Mar 26 with 1829 views | CamberleyR | Did this just now just using the bottom half teams and had Plymouth, Stoke and Oxford going down with Derby just surviving on GD over Oxford. I had us finishing on 55 pts in 15th. https://thefishy.co.uk/football-calculator.php

I had us winning just 2 more games and staying up comfortably in 16th place Saturday is a really big one though, lose that and it becomes a bit twitchy, wiin and we open up a bigger gap to Stoke and we are pretty much alright Our injuries at the moment are a concern for me, that midfield without Varane and Field plus Chair being out really reduces our options

And Saito being out for the three of what a lot of people were thinking were “winnable games” that we have coming up leaves us pretty short up front as well. I wonder what the chances are of Kolli being fit for any of them?
Points, required for safety on 12:28 - Mar 26 with 1571 views | kensalriser | And they're off! The annual bedwetting thread is here. It must be spring. Did you know our form over the last six is the the equal worst (with Oxford) in the division?

Yep - if you really believe we are going to go down, pop over to Sky Bet where you can avail yourself of 50/1. Admittedly, we were 200/1 a week ago.....but a nice compensation / pay for your League 1 season ticket if you are of a nervous disposition.

Points, required for safety on 14:12 - Mar 26 with 1185 views | Ranger_1969 | 50 points will do it for sure, but win one of the next 2 (Stoke or Cardiff) that'll do it I reckon. Hopefully we can all have a stress free end to the season (for a change)!
Points, required for safety on 14:23 - Mar 26 with 1150 views | Northernr | Speaking more generally, some really interesting fixture combinations coming up down there. Derby finish the season with Luton H, Hull A, Stoke H. Stoke play us, Preston, Luton and Cardiff in their next four games and go to Derby on the last day. In their next six games Cardiff have QPR A, Preston A, Stoke H, Oxford H. Oxford have a dreadful run in - Boro, Sheff Utd, Leeds and Sunderland all still to play. Luton's next three away games are Hull, Derby and Stoke.
